Poe poem)

Allan Poe’s poem represents his life, which he believes was “a Dream Within a Dream”. Author links his poem to his life by telling us that he had a hard life and lost a lot of family members, but that we can only discover by looking in depth to his biography. He suggests to reader that his life was “a dream within a dream” but after reading the poem reader may suggest that this dream wasn’t the good one, narrator hopes that it was a dream, but it appears to be for real. The setting takes place at the shore of the ocean; he is holding grains of sand and crying. He is trying to prevent sand from running out of his hands as it represents a life passing by him, narrator never mentions if this life is his or his friend but we can assume that it’s a life of his closest friend.
The structure Poe’s poem “A Dream within a Dream” consists of two stanzas, the first stanza written in first-person. It talks about narrator’s separation from loved person; the second stanza is different from the first one. In the second stanza author is already at the ocean shore talking about his feelings and his powerless against the time. The second half of the poem is more passionate and shows authors feelings and emotions were there the first part is more relaxed and powerless.
The first stanza contains less literary elements. It leaves the reader questioning what the narrator is talking about and why is he so powerless and depressed. The opening of the poem symbolizes death: “Take this kiss upon the brow!”-  Because only dead people are kissed upon the brow. With authors word choice we can already say from the beginning that the tone of poem is negative. Also Poe is using Personification in line number six: “hope has flown away”- he is personifying hope being a bird.

Second stanza is more emotional; narrator is expressing his feelings to reader by using first person. Also he uses a metaphor in line number two, “Surf-tormented shore”- which represents life in general. At the end of this poem he uses imagery to help the reader to image this situation in their heads. Poe wants to save the moments which are shared with that person and doesn’t want to let grains “life” to disappear from his hands.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Agree or Disagree.
1.               As Def Leopard states, it’s better to burn out, than fade away. I.e. it’s better to seize the day, live life to it’s fullest than to live a more uneventful and predictable life.
Agree It’s better to live interesting and exiting life and die early at age of 60, then obey the rules of life, rules are there to be ruined and in my opinion you live your life once so you might just enjoy it. I don’t want to live boring life I don’t want to think when I am 80… if I would be young again I would change something, I want to have adventures in my life and have a lot of stories to tell to my kids!

2.               All of history’s great artists possessed a touch of madness.
Agree artist’s madness makes them unique, for example Van Gogh, he was absolutely crazy but his pieces are beautiful. To be an artist you have to be a little bit crazy. All people are crazy in some sense; every one is unique in their own way and sometimes crazy.
3.               People look up to bravado and physical prowess.

I agree with that statement, it’s really important to be in a good shape and most of people look at the physical aspects before then on the inside of a person. Even ages ego people would still choose the fittest to produce future generation. Animals are using the same concept of choosing, they choose the fittest and strongest.

4. it’s the quiet ones that you have to watch out for.
Agree, most of the time you should be more scared of people who are quite because you never know what’s on there mind, they are usually acting quite but deep inside you never know what secrets  they are hiding. Did you notice that in most horror movies the psycho guy is always the quite one? So you should be aware that most of quite people have disturbed mind or they just live in their own world.

5. The law of Herod is unavoidable. I.e. no matter the good intensions, when people are placed in positions of authority, their power eventually corrupts them.
I agree with that statement, it always happens first some guy works as a clerk at the some company and judging his boss by saying: “If I would be on his place I would never make us work on Saturdays”. Three years later: This guy is the boss of the company, and he is making his people work without the weekends at all, his power corrupted him and now he can’t remember when he was working as a clerk and when he was saying “I would never make my people work on Saturday”

6. The difference between a rebel and a hero is whether or not that person seeks to defend the helpless.

I agree with this statement, it doesn’t matter who you are a hero or rebel, you would still try to defend people around you. Foe example you are walking on the street and see how three people are fighting against one, wouldn’t you help this one guy who can get killed by these three huge guys? I bet u would, you are not a hero but If you will see that something horrible is going on next to you, you will be always there to help because that’s people’s instinct to help others.

7. What society often deems as “crazy” is nothing more than the misunderstanding.
Agree, most people who were extremely smart were clamed to be crazy ages ago, it all was happening because of miss understanding for example the book which I read a wile ago called   Woe from Wit has a character who clamed of craziness because he is unique and smart but others cant understand his point of view so its easier for them to think that he is crazy that to think that they are to stupid to understand him.  So in my opinion this statement is right.

2 examples of literaly terms

Simile: 2 things compared with words as or like.
1. The loo stood like a tomb in a neglected graveyard
(Destructors, Graham Greene)
Point of view/narrative: Who is telling the story?
2. In the story “I’m Your Horse in the Night” narrator is Chiquita, the story is tolled from the first perspective.
- I thought you were fighting up north.

Looks and money

Looks and money

1.      Is money the way to happiness?
In my opinion money are definitely important in the society but, there is more than only money to the happiness. People can have money and never be happy, happiness it’s the feeling you can get while spending time doing your favorite things, being with your relatives and enjoy your life. People who are poor still happy that they have their support: relatives or husbands, wives etc. So I disagree with that statement of money be a way to happiness.

2.      Personal image is more important than the social class.
Agree, but sometimes when you would like to get a job people would prefer to take the one from the high social class than the one who looks better, people with the good personality never could be a presidents but people with a high social class can. But as for me, I don’t really care about this so it’s hard for me to find an answer for this question.

Work of art!!!!

“Work of art”
Categorize your words.
Setting: Moscow
Character: Sasha, Sashkin, Doctor, Uhov
Conflict: Irony, Gaudy, Gratitude, Embarrassing, Candelabra

Sasha Uhov worked in Moscow, he was a doctor. Also Sasha had a hobby of making candelabra for his friend Sashkin who was collecting them, he was very grateful to Uhov for that but thought that his hobby is gaudy. Sasha was embarrassed of his hobby he was thought that if people will know about his unusual hobby they will think that he is crazy. His hobby is ironic.
